I’m a mortgage loan originator, licensed by the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System, or NMLS.  As is required of all licensed MLO’s, I received my license after completing my education in mortgage ethics, laws, guidelines, and successfully passing the national exam.  I am licensed in over 40 states but my main focus is on New Jersey.  I am currently sponsored and employed through Homeland Lending LLC, which is a private mortgage broker and is licensed by the NJ Department of Banking to provide mortgage services (NMLS #245662).

The NMLS Consumer Access database provides a thorough look into the business practice of licencees.  You can view all previous employers, current sponsor information, as well as if any judgement or regulation infractions were brought against the licensee.

One of the most common questions I get is, “Why use a broker?”  The alternative being to go directly to a bank or lender for your mortgage.

 

  • Banks are product oriented. They have only their programs to offer and, if you don’t fit or don’t like them, they’ll send you away having wasted your time.  Very few borrower’s fit the banks “perfect loan scenario.”
  • Banks don’t see enough of the credit-challenged borrower to be able to offer the advice and information you need to put yourself back on track.
  • Mortgage brokers have access to almost every loan program in the marketplace, providing a one-stop shop.
  • Mortgage brokerage firms only get paid if your loan closes, giving them incentive to get the job done.
  • Mortgage brokers act as a filter, helping to determine how to present your loan package in the most favorable way.
  • Good mortgage brokers are accustomed to comparing and contrasting many different loan programs – finding the best one for your situation.
  • Good mortgage brokers are willing to work with you months in advance to help prepare you and/or your loan.
  • Mortgage brokers are dependent upon referral business, making your happiness the ultimate priority.
